Dispensing with the fact that this includes, one must make their way to China to even get the party started, that in and of itself should be a bucketlist item. When you get to China, if you’ve made it that far, you need to hike The Great Wall Of China. While this might sound and seem a difficult task, well, that depends upon what you consider to be a “Hike” – by some standard definition that usually means some sort of an overnight and camping, which yes you can do.
There are basically two options. One is you can take a day trip with the other throngs of tourists, or hire a private guide yourself and make your way outside of Beijing to one of the spots where you can visit the Great Wall. These are pretty touristy and comfortable.
Option two, and this is the one that we want to suggest, is to once again get yourself a private guide, who has the appropriate license to do so and go for at least an overnight camping trip on The Wall. Typical trip will last two to three days. The drive to get out To various Sections of The Wall are anywhere from about 1 hour to three hours outside Beijing. Your guide will set you up with all the basic equipment that you need. The trip can be a bit tough, while much of The Wall around Beijing has been reconstructed, the outer areas are pretty rough.
We’ll poke around and try to find you some guides or trekking company recommendations and post those later, or update here.
